A Real-Life Night at the Museum
Once a year, nearly every corner of Hamburg’s museum landscape comes alive after hours for the Long Night of Museums (Lange Nacht der Museen). From 6 p.m. to 1 a.m., over 50 museums, exhibition spaces, and memorial sites welcome visitors with a rich programme of special exhibitions, hands-on activities, guided tours, and live performances. The event’s rotating motto encourages both nocturnal adventure and critical reflection—in recent years urging audiences to rediscover familiar places and explore urgent social issues.
The festival’s extensive offerings include themed routes such as “Harburg-Streifzug,” “Hamburg’s Wild West,” or remembrance-focused tours under the banner “Never Again Is Now.” Whether you’re into dinosaurs, feminist history, contemporary art, or hands-on workshops, there’s something for everyone—young and old alike. Admission includes unlimited access to HVV public transport, dedicated museum shuttle buses, and even the Historic Hamburg S-Bahn. A discounted Junge Nacht Ticket for teens and free entry for children under twelve make it a family-friendly night to remember.
