Prerequisites

The prerequisite for admission to self-employment or starting a business is an economic interest or a regional need, a positive impact on the economy and secure financing.

The prerequisite for admission to freelance work is a public interest in this work.

Documents required

• valid passport
• 1 current biometric passport photo 35mm x 45mm, light background
• Company profile (not required for freelancers)
• Business plan (not required for freelancers)
• Business concept (not required for freelancers)
• Capital requirement plan (not required for freelancers)
• Financing plan
• Yield forecast
• curriculum vitae
• Proof of health insurance
• Professional license, if it is necessary for the practice of the profession (e.g. admission to a lawyer)
• Appropriate retirement provision (only if you have already reached the age of 45)

Please note

In addition to the local foreigners departments, the Hamburg Welcome Center (HWC) is also available for the following group of people:

• Employees from the fields of science, research and development
• Highly qualified employees with an annual gross salary of EUR 66,000 or more
• Researchers
• Self-employed people, freelancers

Fees

Depending on the period of validity. Up to one year 100 EUR, over one year 110 EUR. Extension up to 3 months 96 EUR. Extension of more than 3 months EUR 93.
