Prerequisites

• You have German citizenship.
• To apply, you must come in person (this also applies to minors).
• Minors must be accompanied by at least one parent or legal guardian. If a parent or legal guardian does not appear in person, their written consent with signature and an original ID card/passport are required.
• In the case of shared custody, the person with custody with whom the minor primarily resides (main residence) must be present.
• You are registered with an apartment in Hamburg. If you are registered with a second residence in Hamburg, approval from the ID authority at your primary residence is required to issue an ID document. This approval will be obtained by Hamburg Service.

Documents required

• current biometric passport photo, which must meet the requirements for photos for electronic identity cards.
  • Starting May 1, 2025, you must submit your passport photo electronically. You can have the photo taken on-site or bring a QR code, which the photo studio will provide you with when the photo is taken.
  • The requirements for the passport photo can be found in the photo sample table (see link 鈥淔ederal Ministry of the Interior and Homeland - Photo sample table鈥�, at the bottom of this page under 鈥淔orms, Service & Links鈥�).
  • A photo booth (speed capture terminal) is available. The fee for an on-site photo is 鈧�6.00. You will not receive a print. Please note that the photo booth is not suitable for taking passport photos of infants and small children.
• if available: valid identification document, for example identity card or old passport
• For minors: birth certificate, child's passport, consent form, and identity cards or passports of the legal guardians. In the case of sole custody, proof of the presence of the minor child and the legal guardian.

The passport can be picked up by a person authorized by you.

Deadlines

Validity period:

• 6 years for applicants under the age of 24


• 10 years for applicants aged 24 and over

Procedure

You can only apply for an express passport in person at the Hamburg Service Center. This can only be done in person. You can make an appointment online or by phone. The application will be completed by the passport office staff. All you need to do is sign. During the application process, your fingerprints will be taken for storage in the passport chip (usually a flat print of your left and right index fingers).
The passport is produced by Bundesdruckerei GmbH and sent to the Hamburg Service. You will receive a collection slip with which you can pick up the express passport. After you have been notified that your express passport is ready for collection, please pick it up from the location where you applied for it.

• Persons under 24 years 69.50 (including the express order fee of 32 EUR)


• Please note that additional fees will apply in cases of incompetence and passports with more than 32 pages.
