You have applied for guardianship for your child and no longer need it? Then you can end the guardianship.

Detailed description

If you, as a parent, have applied for (and received) guardianship for your child, you can end the guardianship at any time if you no longer need it. To do so, you must send a written notification to the responsible authority.

  • You have a guardianship.

  • written declaration of termination of the guardianship

Please note

The guardianship ends automatically when the legal requirements are no longer met. This is the case, for example, if:

  • the child comes of age or
  • the single parent and the child move abroad permanently or
  • the guardianship has fulfilled its purpose, for example because paternity has been established.

Procedure

  • You inform the responsible authority in writing that you want to end the guardianship. The notification can be made informally.
  • The responsible authority informs all parties involved about the termination of the guardianship.
  • If necessary, you will be informed about legal consequences.
  • If necessary, a final invoice will follow.

Processing time

The guardianship ends as soon as you notify the responsible authority in writing. Written confirmation may take 2-3 weeks.
