Fireworks - Apply for an exception for private small fireworks outside of the New Year period

If you, as a private individual, want to set off small fireworks outside of the New Year's period, you will need an exemption permit.

Detailed description

If you are at least 18 years old, you may use category F2 pyrotechnics, such as New Year's Eve fireworks, on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day (December 31 and January 1) without a permit.

On other days, this is only permitted for holders of an explosives permit or certificate of competence.

The following applies to Hamburg: Given the population density in Hamburg, the use of small private fireworks in category F2 is not eligible for approval. You can submit an application, but it will always be rejected.

In principle, you cannot obtain permission to set off small fireworks outside of the New Year period in Hamburg.

Documents required

  • Identity card or passport (copy)
  • If applicable, a declaration of consent from the property owner

Deadlines

Apply for the exemption at least 14 days before the planned event.

    • You submit the application to the responsible authority.

    • The responsible authority will decide on your application.
    • You will receive a notification.

Processing time

If all required documents are available, processing usually takes a maximum of 14 days.
